From 25th to 29th October the Orgatec is taking place with the motto ‘New Visions of Work’ in Cologne. Again, one of the focuses will be acoustics. PALMBERG were therefore discussing the question of how to work undisturbed in view times of trends towards open-plan offices with high noise levels.
UMBRELLA - The new form of silence
The result of the investigations accompanied by the external design team in charge, Christiane Gebert and Thorsten Rosenstengel, is a product between furniture and space. Under the working title UMBRELLA a product solution has been brought into being which on the one hand creates acoustically effective spaces without on the other hand needing fixed and complicated installations.
UMBRELLA adopts the principle of an opening umbrella. Stretched acoustic fabrics can be formed to a space of silence via a central axis. The supports of this light construction consist of aluminium profiles, stable but light enough to be moveable without effort. If the space is not needed anymore, it can be reduced to a minimum as in the case of the umbrella. The two designers, who have already created other successful PALMBERG products, succeeded in developing a spatial element, giving the impression of lightness and transparency without neglecting acoustical effectiveness. The reduced material usage and the simple, visible construction are giving silence a new form. In combination with the TERIO Plus partition walls from PALMBERG, diverse spatial configurations are possible. UMBRELLA can be used freestanding as well as wall-linked, thus allowing for easy retrofitting of the spaces where employees suffer from bad reverberation times. In order to make UMBRELLA a transparent space, we have decided for the special acoustic fabrics from Creation Baumann, Switzerland. They are high-quality, aesthetic, available in white and dark grey, and fit perfectly with our new product. These fabrics are also given an inner shine by the integrated LED lighting in our frame elements.
TERIO PLUS – family is growing
Walls and ‘hard surfaces’, such as glass, ceramics or steel are usually reverberant. The sound is reflected and – depending on room geometry – can build up. With the TERIO PLUS partition wall system PALMBERG provides a high-quality system for visual and acoustic shielding of working areas. Thanks to great flexibility and different formats, the walls and attachments allow for compatibility with the PALMBERG desk series.
In the future there will be additional useful extensions round the partition wall system TERIO PLUS. Elements like wall and ceiling absorbers or baffles will further optimise your room acoustics, as well as freestanding cabinets combined with fabric-covered rear panels at the workstation.
Make sure to be there where work is being redefined, and learn more about modern Palmberg furniture as a creative element for your room or workstation. Palmberg cordially invites you from 25th to 29th October to the fair stand in hall 07.1, stand 038-041 and is looking forward to your visit!
