Pillars of finances

Whether companies, technology firms, investors, builders or homeowners, Saxony's AufbauBank offers every target group the optimal financial support programme. AufbauBank is the central development institution of the Free State of Saxony. Working closely with the Saxon state government, SAB's main aim is to strengthen the economic development of the Free State.

To achieve this goal, SAB employs a total of more than 900 people. With the relocation of the bank from Dresden to the city centre of Leipzig, a new development step has now been taken. For this purpose, SAB acquired a site with a total area of 10,000 m². The building, designed by London-based architects acme, is divided into two areas, the bank and the public forum. The administrative building, with a ground floor and four upper floors, provides space for 500 employees of the Aufbaubank and is clearly distinguished from a conventional bank building by its new design language. The columns and the curved shape of the building enclose the area of the forum and thus become a public square.

In order to transfer the building's special exterior architecture to the interior, the bank's office floors are designed for the greatest possible flexibility and are thus also prepared for future developments in the world of work. In addition to the construction of new room types such as Flex Office, Silent Room, Think Tank or Open Space, the design of the individual workplaces also focuses on promoting communication among employees.

acme, my goodness, this bunch is ambitious" raved architecture critic Tom Dyckhoff about the young firm's willingness to experiment in the British daily "The Times" back in 2010.

acme particularly enjoys testing new forms and materials, which it can wrap around existing or new buildings. Sustainability plays a central role in the project's planning concept. The public forum consists of a total of 159 sustainably produced columns, which not only serve to symbolically stabilize the bank building, but also provide visual and acoustic shielding as well as cooling for the offices and drainage for the roof area.

The new building required the development of an office concept that promotes communication and turns each workstation into a private area. The majority of the bankers process the complex work requirements at double workstations. All the desks used of the CREW series are height-adjustable by electric motor. In the age of the paperless office, SAB employees can use modular containers from the ORGA PLUS series or SELECT sideboards and thus have all the documents they need directly at their workstations. Large-format partition walls from the TERIO PLUS series additionally optimise the room acoustics and divide the open areas into working and communication zones.
